MARTIN FRIED

Professor Fried is an internationally acclaimed expert in bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. He comes from Prague where he graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, in 1982. He received an attestation in surgery.


Professor Fried began to specialise in bariatic surgery in the early 1990s, when he became a member of a medical team specialising in this area.


Professor Fried holds two important firsts in his field. In 1993, he was the first surgeon in the world to fit a non-adjustable gastric band laparoscopically on an obese patient .


In 2000 he was the first surgeon in the Czech Republic to perform a robot-assisted gastric band operation.


From 1994 to 2001, Dr. Fried was the head physician at the General Faculty Hospital and at the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University (Prague). In 2005 he was promoted to Professor of Surgery at Charles University.


He has been the head of OB klinika since 2009.


Professor Fried also operates and lectures abroad, especially in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.


Professor Fried continues to be a member of many professional associations.


He was the vice-president of IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders) and he has been the executive director of its European chapter for three years.

Professor Fried is a member of the International Society of Surgery,


Professor Fried is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and many others.
